I’m not as keen on this drawing but I’ll add it anyway. This is supposed to represent a slightly different style of drawing.Yes, there are two because I messed something up with the scanner and I was too lazy to crop this.

Here’s the latest drawing. I suppose this person is supposed to look vaguely like me. I was imagining this could be something I could use as my profile picture on Facebook but it is so non-descript I don’t think I’ll use it. I want to make another one but I’ll probably draw off of a photograph of myself to make it a little more distinctively me. One problem I am having is that I don’t have anything distinctive about me to make this little character “me”. I notice that this girl is standing (leaning) at a very unnatural angle. One thing I want to get better at is posing my characters in interesting more natural poses. I also need to get better materials. The pen I used was a (thin) sharpie but it was still much to thick for the paper which was just “drawing paper” that a bought for a few bucks at a Walgreens.

I was drawing tonite. I have a few more drawings to add but it takes FOREVER to add anything. It took about 5 minutes to draw this but I had to color it in. I don’t really enjoy coloring things in/painting them. Then I had to scan it in which proved to be a huge pain. Finally I don’t even know where to post stuff. I’m putting it on this blog temporarily. This dress was inspired by a similar Marchesa design so I can’t really take credit. I thought it was pretty and then I attempted to make it more whimsical like you can do when you draw something.

Sound Opinions

Lately I have been listening to the Sound Opinions podcast (thanks Jenna!). This has helped me get excited about music again. Jim & Greg, who host the show, help remind me of music that I used to like a lot but I had forgotten to listen to in a while or they introduce me to new music that I really enjoy or might have never listened to if it weren’t for their suggestion. I like the show because they listen very widely. Given the format of the show and the fact that people who like music usually like to be snobby about it, you might think that they only listen to obscure indie rock or something of the sort but they also listen to hip-hop, pop, etc. They appreciate good music within each genre for what it is and are also knowledgeable about the history of rock and other genres. One of my favorite pieces that they did traced the song “In the Pines” using recordings from The Essential Bill Monroe & the Monroe Brothers’ recording in 1930 to Kurt Cobain’s performance at MTV unplugged in New York in 1994. I’m also excited because I bought the Zune pass so this month I am downloading ALL the music that they suggest and listening very broadly. If I don’t like something I’ll just delete it or it will expire soon.
